Line haul carriers count losses
Drewry Shipping Consultants published the Container Freight Rate Insight report, where defines that rates falling in 2008, especial during period from November to December, strongly undermined profitability of line haul companies. On the whole for a year on all companies the rates falling «has eaten» about 70 milliards of dollars of possible incomes, decline of incomes from Asia to Europe is especially noticeable.
Rates from Asia to the USA in November - January 2009 slumped by 12.1% to 1681 dollar, in January 2008 - January 2009 decreased by 14.3%. And rates from Asia to Europe slumped by 42.2% in November - January to 1232 dollars and 68.7% in January 2008 - January 2009. 2008 rates from Hong Kong to the USA West Coast FEU fell down by 15% to 2090 dollars, to the East Coast by 17% to 3340 dollars. To the mid-February rates from Hong Kong to Los Angeles decreased to record low 1350 dollars per FEU.
Linear sector rates slumped almost by 20% in November - January 2009 and by 30% for 2008
